🇺🇸 LJTS Project History

Since I was 14 years old, I developed a fascination with understanding how athletes move. I would carefully observe every detail of the long jump and wonder whether it was possible to accurately measure technique, speed, or the height of the center of mass with the help of technology. What once seemed like an unreachable dream slowly turned into a purpose.

After realizing the huge gap between the achievements of students in Guatemala’s capital and those in rural areas, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I wanted to create something that could help close that gap something that combined my interests in sports and technology.

I started by watching countless YouTube tutorials on programming and computer vision, often staying up late just to fix a single line of code. I read academic articles on the biomechanics of the long jump, learning how elite athletes move and what makes their technique so efficient. Little by little, I began to connect the dots between code and movement, between data and performance.

At 15, I began exploring the world of programming and artificial intelligence. That was when I discovered the possibility of using advanced tools, such as ChatGPT, to learn, design, and build the first ideas of what would later become LJTS  Long Jump Trainer System. During that process, every conversation and every line of code became an opportunity to learn, correct, and grow. AI served as a guide on my self-taught journey, but what truly mattered was the persistence and enthusiasm that transformed an idea into a useful tool.

At first, the word “System” in the name seemed a bit ambitious to me. However, over time, I came to understand that behind that word there was no pretension, but a goal: to create a complete system that brings real value to the sport. As the first results began to appear, I learned to respect the work I was doing and to believe more in what I was building.

What drives me to continue developing this project is the desire to leave a technical and educational legacy for the sport in my country and for young people elsewhere. My goal is for this tool to help athletes improve their technique, motivate them to push their limits, and challenge themselves through accessible, science-based feedback.

I have not been alone on this journey. My brothers and sisters have also contributed, participating as athletes and supporting me during the system’s testing phases. Two of them are high-performance long jumpers, and thanks to their experience, I was able to validate several technical aspects of the program. In my own case, I’ve had the opportunity to compete at national and Central American levels, which has allowed me to better understand the real needs of athletes and coaches.

Today, LJTS is more than just software it is the result of years of learning, collaboration, and love for sport. A project that brings together science, technology, and human passion with a single purpose: to drive the technical development of those who dream of going further.
